The singer, 49, has opened up about his relationship with the Spice Girl in his new Netflix documentary and revealed it was more than a fling and felt ‘magical’. In the series, which is released on November 8, Robbie explained that their relationship started whilst he was going through Alcoholics Anonymous and was warned against getting into a relationship with anybody at a time of fragility. Robbie said: ‘You can’t even look after a cactus, let alone somebody else’. Robbie and Geri, 51, enjoyed a romance together in the early noughties and spent a lengthy vacation in the south of France with Robbie’s songwriting partner, Guy Chambers and his wife Emma. He said: ‘We really got on really well, it was fun, and we were just a little gang that were sharing a very magical moment, in a magical place.’ The footage shows the pair of them cuddling up with one another and having fun, playing around with each other and singing on a boat on one of their many globe-trotting trips. Rumours emerged that Geri was calling the paparazzi on the pair of them whilst they were trying to enjoy their time together, and Robbie said he believed them at the time. When discussing the rumours, Robbie said he spoke to a paparazzi who blamed Geri, saying: ‘Now I don’t think that’s true for one second, but at the time I did believe it. It just goes to show what being in the spotlight can do to your psyche, when you can’t trust anybody.’ The documentary covers an array of Robbie’s relationships including All Saints singer Nicole Appleton. The couple were engaged twice however Robbie recalled the relationship as a ‘child talking to his mum.’ The documentary is a deep dive into the former Take That singer’s career, all the trials and tribulations plus his relationship with drugs and alcohol. The most impactful part of the documentary shows Robbie at a concert in Leeds where he suffers a panic attack throughout the entire show. Despite not being fit to perform he carried on and played another concert the following night. The film in its entirety was difficult to watch, Robbie compared it to watching a car crash in slow motion, however understood and appreciated that it was incredibly cathartic to watch. Robbie also reflected on his current relationship and how lucky he is to have met his wife, Ayda, 44. The pair started dating in 2006 and tied the knot in 2010.
