The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a stunning Switch swansong. It’s a must-play for fans of the series.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a masterpiece that builds upon the foundations of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, while switching things up in ways that are sometimes unexpected but almost always wonderful. The game features new areas to explore, such as Sky Islands and The Depths, as well as new enemies, items, and abilities. The most significant new ability is Ultra-Hand, which allows Link to pick up and manipulate objects and stick them together to create new items. This opens up a world of possibilities for puzzle solving and creative builds. The game also features four elemental temples, which are a much-appreciated upgrade on Breath of the Wild’s Divine Beasts. The main questline culminates in a suitably bombastic finale, and the climactic showdown with Ganondorf is certainly worthy of concluding an adventure as grand as this one. Tears of the Kingdom is often a very pretty game, but it’s clear that the game is pushing the Nintendo Switch to its limits. Framerate hiccups were a persistent problem throughout my playthrough, and textures can be very blurry. Despite these technical issues, Tears of the Kingdom is an engrossing experience that’s never anything short of a masterpiece. It sets a new high bar for Nintendo games, and its influence will be felt for years to come.
