NASA is still assessing damage to the Orion heat shield from the Artemis 1 mission.

NASA is still investigating the performance of the heat shield on the Orion spacecraft after the Artemis 1 mission. The erosion of the heat shield material was more than predicted during reentry, but NASA emphasized that it did not jeopardize the spacecraft.
Engineers are looking at factors that could have caused the loss of the Avcoat material during reentry, including the “skip” reentry trajectory and material properties of Avcoat.
Ground testing has been able to mimic the conditions seen on the heat shield during reentry.
NASA and its contractors are continuing to process the various components of the Artemis 2 mission, including Orion, to keep the mission on track for a launch in late 2024.
If necessary, NASA is prepared to go back and make changes to the heat shield.
